On February 25, 2023, the Bükki National Park Directorate will launch a thematic tour from the entrance gate of the Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark to the Mucsény log cave hidden on the Slovak side.
The Bükki National Park Directorate offers an exciting family-friendly program at the Ipolytarnóc Fossils Site. It invites you to the former tropics, on the adventure tour that crosses borders, state boundary and the time of millions of years.
This special tour takes you to the sanctuary of Prehistoric Pompeii, buried by a supervolcanic eruption 17 million years ago. In the framework of the ten-kilometer, professionally guided tour, those interested can get to know the wonders of the area that extends to the tree trunk cave of the special geological object hidden on the Slovakian side of the Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark.
In fact, even much more than that, because they are connected to other programs, regardless of the guided tour. Visitors can relax by the fireplace, warm the shivering ancient animals of the Miocene forest and the trees of Bükkábrány, in the Ancient Pine Visitor Center's reception building they can shape a landscape on a digital sand box, learn about the birth of the Carpathian Basin in an interactive exhibition, bring the animated past into motion on a touch wall and experience a simulated four-dimensional time travel moments before a volcanic eruption in the local movie theater.

The duration of the tour is approx. 3 hours.
The expected end of the program is at 13 hours PM.

Itinerary: 10 km, moderately difficult hike from the Ősfenyő Entrance reception building to the Mucsiny tree trunk cave on the Slovak side, following forest paths, and then back touching the stateborder suitable clothing and footwear is recommended.
Participation fee: HUF 3,000/person, payable locally.
