The extremely diverse volcanic heritage of the Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark has been popularized by the latest study by Professor Szabolcs Harangi in the Geoconservation Research Journal.

Professor Harangi is a doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is the head university professor of the Department of Geology and Geochemistry of ELTE, the founder and head of the MTA-ELTE Volcanology Research Group, and he assisted in the creation of the geopark from the very beginning.

His latest article, published in the scientific journal with the support of the Volcanology Working Group of the European Geoparks Network, describes the region's volcanic heritage from the perspective of geotourism. A significant part of the geopark's geosites have volcanological curiosities and are of international importance, like in the case of the Ipolytarnoc Fossils.
