History and value

In 2007, a hydrogeological well was drilled near the village of Rapp to explore thermal waters. The 1501.2 m deep borehole drilled through the Tertiary (Oligocene-Miocene) clayey rock layers of the Losonc Basin and penetrated the light gray Triassic period limestones of the so-called The Szilice blanket at a depth of 775 meters. The water, which also contains original sea salt comes from the karstic cavities. Such limestones are best known from the Gömör-Tornai karst and the Rőce Mountains, and are the only place in the geopark.

There is currently a hot water beach at the drilling site.
