Indoors and outdoors, our cultural heritage at the Ipolytarnoc Fossils

The European Heritage Days in Hungary will take place on 18 and 19 September 2021. The Bükk National Park Directorate will also join the international commemoration, with open days for pre-registrants at the Miocene Park of the Ipolytarnóc Fossils.

On these special days, between 9 am and 4 pm, pre-registered visitors can stay free of charge in the area and visit the interactive exhibitions in the Ancient Pine Visitor Centre, the Bükkábrány Trees and the Miocene Forest Arboretum.

A selection of films from the Gödöllő International Nature Film Festival will also be screened at the visitor centre. In addition, free guided tours inside and outside the museum, starting at 10.40 a.m. on both days, will introduce visitors to the secrets of the Site.

The guided tour of the Visitor Centre on 18 September 2021 at 10.40 am will cover the symbolism of the architecture of the Lower Miocene geohistoric events and the exhibitions in the reception building and the Slovak-Hungarian, Palóc-connected Novohrad - Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark visitor sites.

It will also provide an introduction to the cultural heritage of the cross-border geopark, including the Old Village and Castle of Hollókő, the hermitage of the Szentkút shrine, the Kubinyi Ferenc Museum in Szécsény, the Underground Mining Museum in Salgótarján and the castle hill in Fülek.

Starting on 19 September 2021 at 10.40 a.m., the guided tour will begin from the trees of Bükkábrány. It explores the remains of the Miocene prehistoric world and the myths associated with its fossil remains, and then wanders through the arboretum of the Miocene forest.
