Museum Day and EGN Week at the Fossils
In the second half of May the Prehistoric Pompeii of the Miocene Park awaits its visitors with special programs.
Mother Earth Day at the Miocene Park
The staff of the Ipolytarnóc Fossils will collect the rubbish on the access roads of the area in honor of the Earth Day and will celebrate the famous event with a special thematic tour.

The Rudapithecus will come to Ipolytarnóc again after its 2014 photo exhibition. Starting at 11 a.m. on March 12, 2022, dr. Laszlo Kordos will present his new book about the fossil ape at a press conference and audience meeting in the Miocene Park. The joint event of the Bükk National Park Directorate and the Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark pays tribute to the work of the famous paleontologist.

EGN Week in the Miocene Park
The Ipolytarnoc Fossils joins to the European Geoparks Week's activity, which takes place at late May early June each year. It is a European – wide festival of the Geoparks aimed at raising public awareness of geoconservation and promotion of the geoheritage of our old continent. Due to the pandemic restrictions only outdoor programs will be available to the visitors this year.
May 1, You Can Come Again
As of 1 May 2021, following the latest coronavirus regulations, with some extra rules our Miocene Park reopens again. The world-famous geosite, managed by the Bükk National Park Directorate, is the gateway to the Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark, and you can now really enter it, Come and visit us!
International Museum Day at the Miocene Park
Museums that preserve the relics and memories of the past are able to broaden our perspective and can provide help in the interpretation of the world around us. The Prehistoric Pompeii and the trans-national Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark join to the celebration of the International Museum Day on 18 May.
The 17 million-year-old habitat of the nature reserve is a kind of open-air museum, managed by the Bükk National Park Directorate.
The geosite promotes the natural, historical and cultural values of the region and the sister museums that preserve them.
In connection with these, a free guided tour will start on May 18 at 10:45 am, at the Ancient Pine Visitor Center, and those interested are welcome.

EGN Week at the Miocene Park
The European Geoparks Week, taking place at late May early June each year, is a European – wide festival of Geoparks aimed at raising public awareness of geoconservation and promotion of the geological heritage as well as events aimed at informing the wide public about geotouristic and educational activities in geoparks. The Ipolytarnoc Fossils as the main gateway to the trans-national Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark takes part in this special event.
Between May 26 and June 05 the specialists of the Bükk National Park Directorate (one of the main stakeholders of the geopark) organise special programs to celebrate the EGN Week.
In addition to the dynamic life of our Earth and climate change, participants can also learn about the latest paleontological discoveries of the Prehistoric Pompeii on the guided tours of the geological study trail.
On May 28, starting at 11:45 a.m., participants can take part in a Miocene Ancient World thematic tour from the Bükkábrány trees of the Lake Pannon to the ancient sea full of with giant sharks. Only pre-registered participants can take part in the thematic tour (HUF 3,000 / person), the intention to participate can be indicated in an email received by email@example.com by 27 May.
On May 29 starting at 10:45 a.m., the life on the Canopy trail will be interpreted. Meeting point at the Tuzson tower. The canopy trail ticket is needed for those, who want to take part in that program.
The Volcano Day is held on June 1 all around the EGN, including our Site.
A 2 hour-long thematic guided tour starting from the visitor centre at 11 A.M. will commemorate the volcanism of the Carpathian-basin.
Andesite rocks on a study-trailOne can attend it for the price of the geological tour-ticket, you are invited.
On June 4 a crossborder excursion will visit the Mucseny geosite, where a molded tree-trunk cave is exposed from the incorporating rhyolite-tuff.

ValuesSZENT ISTVÁN CAVE
The total length of the passageways of the Szent István Cave is 1,514 m, its vertical dimension is 101 m. In the building in front of the cave you can find the ticket office and a souvenir shop. The length of the passageway shown to the visitors is 170 m, during the trip to and back it’s 340 m altogether, with some stairs.Read more

In the Western Gate Visitor Center of the Bükk National Park Directorate in Felsőtárkány, visitors can observe the flora and fauna of the Bükk National Park through the interactive elements of the exhibition “Karst and its living world”, many times playfully, and they can also learn about the geological formation of the mountain.Read more
